Volkswagen’s ID.4 Crossover Already in Production; Revealed to be Tesla Model Y-Size

  • A German YouTuber revealed in addition to the Volkswagen ID.3, the company is also currently producing the VW ID.4 electric crossover at its Zwickau plant.
  • It is also confirmed that this new crossover will have identical interior space as the Tesla Model Y, confirming that this will be a crossover/SUV.
  • Rumors indicate that the ID.4 could be sold for around $40,000, making it a highly competitive offering in the EV market.

Volkswagen is expected to start deliveries of the ID.3 EV by June. As we learned this today, we also encountered a YouTube video where it is revealed that VW is already producing ID.4 vehicles. This comes from the German YouTube channel nextmove, who reportedly caught a glimpse of the ID.4 in VW’s Zwickau assembly unit. This unit also produces the VW ID.3.

As per the YouTuber, the ID.4 will be of the same size as the tesla Model Y. This perhaps can also be compared with the company’s ID.CROZZ which was shown off earlier this year. There are no exact dimensions available yet, though we do know that it will be an all-electric crossover.

VW is expected to significantly ramp up production in its Zwickau facility so as to bring at least 100,000 units of the ID.3 and ID.4 by 2021. It will be interesting to see how the car will be priced. Current rumors indicate that the ID.4 could cost anywhere close to $40,000, which may make it one of the best crossovers in the EV market.

Volkswagen has been relatively quiet about the ID.4 although it has confirmed that the vehicle is on its way. VW also added that the ID.4 will sell in markets right in Europe, China as well as the U.S. Contrastingly, the ID.3 will not break cover in North America during its initial release, though it will be available shortly after.
