Tesla Owners Without Basic Autopilot Can Now Get It at a Discounted Price

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk has mentioned that Tesla owners who don’t have the basic Autopilot add-on can now get it for $2,000.
  • This $1,000 discount on the standard price can be accessed via the Tesla app, the CEO said.
  • Tesla is also increasing the price of its Full Self-Driving option starting July 1 from $7,000 to $8,000 as the company looks to drive up its earnings.

As was reported back in May, Tesla is expected to increase the price of the Full-Self Driving or FSD option for its cars starting in July. At the time, the company noted that a customer who chooses to include the Full-Self Driving kit will have to shell out an additional $1,000. This would take the price up from $7,000 to $8,000.

Ahead of the price increase that kicks in within the next couple of weeks, tesla has now temporarily discounted the price for the basic Tesla Autopilot option on its app. Basic Autopilot is now standard on all Tesla automobiles, but the company allowed owners who bought their cars before the feature became a standard to purchase the option for just $3,000. Well, that has now come been discounted to $2,000 for a limited period as per company CEO Elon Musk who shared the news via Twitter.

Bear in mind that the FSD option still costs $7,000 for all eligible owners. Musk specified in his tweet that the discounted price for basic Autopilot can be found within the Tesla app and can be acquired via an in-app purchase. The Tesla app also allows you to consider other upgrades available for your car. Musk further reminded customers that the price increase for the Full Self-Driving option will come into effect on the 1st of July.

As was the case with the FSD price increase announcement, cutting the cost of the basic Autopilot function could be Tesla’s way of boosting its financial figures as the second quarter draws to a close. Basic Autopilot comes included with features like Autosteer and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control.

If you’re yet to include the Basic Autopilot on your Tesla, this is perhaps the right time to get one. Although the company didn’t specify how long this discount will last, it’s likely that it will expire on July 1.
