Digitec Galaxus, the largest eCommerce retailer in Switzerland, has started to accept Bitcoin payments allowing customers to buy variety of products from online stores with the digital currency, the company announced today.
The new feature has been enabled by a partnership with Swiss e-payment company Datatrans AG and Denmark-based cryptocurrency payment provider Coinify.
During the checkout process, customers of the two online shops Digitec and Galaxus will be able to pay using Bitcoin, Ripple (XRP), Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash ABC, Bitcoin Cash SV, Binance Coin, Litecoin, TRON, NEO and OmiseGO cryptocurrencies. Once a customer has selected the digital currency of choice, conversion rate will be valid for a limited timeframe of 15 minutes, during which transaction will have to be completed using crypto wallet.
According to the official announcement, Swiss ecommerce retailer Digitec Galaxus won’t charge any transaction fees, however cryptocurrency payment facilitator, Coinify, will charge 1.5% of the total purchase amount.
Digitec Galaxus quote its CIO and co-founder, Oliver Herren, saying, “Cryptocurrencies are fascinating and likely to become a relevant means of payment in e-commerce – we want to support this development.” Herren also added a witty remark: “Of course I’m expecting all crypto millionaires in Switzerland to only buy from us in the future.”
