Review: Blockfolio cryptocurrency portfolio tracker for Android

There are currently more than 2000 cryptocurrencies listed on CoinMarketCap.com, spread across hundreds of exchanges. With so many cryptos on so many exchanges, all fluctuating constantly in price, portfolio trackers are an essential tool for any crypto holder or trader. The most popular cryptocurrency portfolio tracker is Blockfolio, with more than a million downloads through the Google Play Store.

Blockfolio is the most popular portfolio tracker for good reason. It claims to list more than 3000 cryptocurrencies – more than even CoinMarketCap – and allows you to track trades across a similarly comprehensive cross-section of exchanges. The value of your portfolio can then be tracked in real-time and displayed in Bitcoin or thirty different fiat currencies.

Users are in complete control of which cryptocurrencies are listed on the main portfolio tab. As well as displaying the value of your various holdings in either Bitcoin or any supported fiat currency, you can show what percentage of your portfolio is held in each crypto – a great feature for those trying to keep their portfolio balanced. You can also monitor the price of cryptocurrencies you don’t currently hold.

The ‘News’ tab provides a constant feed of headlines from some of the biggest crypto news sites, including CoinTelegraph and CoinDesk.

There is also a ‘Signal’ tab, which displays news and updates from the team behind any cryptos currently being tracked. It seems that this feature is growing in popularity, with more projects adding updates to their Signal feed all the time.

Where Blockfolio really excels is in the amount of insight it can give you to the performance of various cryptos, as well as your portfolio as a whole.

Whenever you make a trade, you can enter the full details of how much of a crypto was bought or sold, on which exchange, through which trading pair, and at what time. Those wanting to use this to their full potential will have a comprehensive record of all their crypto trading.

This information is then used to create a chart which displays the total value of your holdings over time. These charts can display your portfolio’s performance over a period of a day, a week, a month, three months, six months, one year, or over the entire period you’ve had the app installed.

Blockfolio also provides access to price charts and order books for all of the trading pairs and crypto exchanges it tracks.

One of the most useful features is the ability to set price alerts whenever a cryptocurrency moves above or below a certain price. Most exchanges’ offer only rudimentary stop/loss and limit order functions, and using these isn’t always a good idea in a market that fluctuates as wildly as cryptocurrency.

RATING – 5/5 ★★★★★

Comprehensive, intuitive, and highly customizable – Blockfolio is the gold standard for cryptocurrency portfolio tracking apps. There are occasionally complaints that Blockfolio can be slow to add new cryptocurrencies and the sources which show up in the newsfeed is quite limited, but these minor gripes aside, Blockfolio is an indispensable tool for anyone involved with cryptocurrency.
