Renault to Launch CMF/EV Based Small Electric Crossover in Europe Next Year

  • As per a new leak, Renault will launch a small electric crossover in European markets by 2021.
  • This automobile will be based on the company’s CMF/EV platform while offering a range of 600 km or 373 miles per charge.
  • Renault is also seemingly bringing a larger electric SUV by 2022, although no additional details were provided.

A leak has revealed that Renault is looking to bring a new small electric crossover to the European markets. It is said that this crossover will offer an electric range of around 600 km or 373 miles, which is fairly decent for a small car. This is also significantly better than the 2020 Renault Zoe which offers a range of 245 miles on the 55 kWh battery pack model.

The leak adds that this new EV will be placed slightly higher than the Zoe on Renault’s portfolio. However, interested customers will have to wait until 2021 to see this vehicle officially hit the markets.

This EV will run on the company’s CMF/EV platform, apparently. Barring the range mentioned above, no details about the engine or the vehicle itself were provided. The leak also discusses a larger automobile along the lines of the Renault Kadjar. This will also run on the aforementioned CMF/EV platform. However, this EV will reportedly reach the markets only by 2022.

The small EV segment currently has a bunch of decent names including the likes of tesla (Model 3), as well as Nissan, Peugeot, Audi, Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW, and several others. The Chevy Bolt EV (Opel Ampera-e in Europe) continues to be a favorite in the segment.

Several manufacturers are currently seeing delays in production due to the Coronavirus pandemic. A report from earlier today mentioned that China’s Hongqi E115 EV may go into production despite COVID-19 concerns.
