In a move to push its blockchain policies ahead, the Italian government has just convened a group of experts on blockchain and related technologies to serve as advisory-giving body. This group of experts will render their services free of charge to assist the government in formulating a “national strategy on distributed register and blockchain technologies.”
Through the effort of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), the 30 blockchain high-level experts were hired after a 4-month selection process. The group should be composed of 10 members from the business sector, 10 representatives from research organisations, 10 representatives from trade unions and consumer sectors and a representative from MISE.
In September of this year, deputy minister and minister of economic development Luigi Di Maio said that there is no stopping emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain from changing the society where we live in.
Emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain are intended to radically change our lives, the society in which we live and the economic and productive habit of the country. — says Maio.
The high-level blockchain experts were a mixture of Italian professionals from various domestic sectors. Some are prominent figures in the sectors to where they belong. They include Marcella Atzori who is a member of the board of directors of the Blockchain & Society Policy Research Lab; Gian Luca Comandini, Assobit co-founder, and Angiolini Giorgio, Italtel head of marketing portfolio; Giustozzi Lorenzo, president of the BlockchainEdu Association; among other experts.
Italy was among the seven countries who earlier signed a treaty to promote the use Distributed Ledger and Technologies (DLT) in the EU region.
