Over the past week, Dappradar.com’s statistics show that just ten dApps have generated more than $10 million. The majority of these are gambling dApps, with just one non-gambling dApp appearing on this list.
EOS is the most-represented blockchain platform on this list, with five of the ten dApps being based on EOS. Four are on TRON, with just one Ethereum dApp generating over $10 million in volume this past week. TRON’s four $10 million-plus volume dApps saw a total volume of over $100 million, compared to $80.7 million for the EOS-based dApps. Ethereum lags far behind, with its only $10 million-plus volume dApp seeing weekly volume of $12 million.
Most of these dApps have generated a large volume from a relatively small number of users. Only three of the dApps listed here had more than 1,000 users in the past 24 hours. Whether these gambling dApps are the playground of crypto-rich whales or there has been some massaging of their figures, the list should provide some insight into the current status of the dApp ecosystem on Ethereum, EOS, and TRON.
7 Day Volume: 1.7 billion TRX / $42,700,000
TRONbet is by far the highest grossing dApp on any of the three major platforms, generating close to double the weekly volume of its nearest competitor. It also has by far the largest number of users, with more than three times as many people using the platform in the last 24 hours as the second-most popular dApp on this list.
TRONbet currently has just one game. The game works similarly to dice, though the numbers generated are anywhere between 1 and 99. Players bet whether the next roll will be over or under a specified number. If they bet the next number will be over or under 50, their stake is doubled. But if they choose to bet on a roll being higher or lower than other numbers, the odds increase or decrease accordingly.
Other games are coming to the platform, with two slot games currently available as beta versions, and a poker game advertised on the website as coming soon.
7 Day Volume: 3.8 million EOS / $22,300,000
EOSJacks is the highest grossing dApp on EOS. The games it offers are blackjack, a 1-to-99 dice game similar to TRONbet, and a player vs player ladder game. In the ladder game, players bet on the lines that characters take in a race to reach the end. All players are able to stake unlimited amounts on any of the lines in-game, with the house taking a 2% cut of any winnings.
7 Day Volume: 868.7 million TRX / $21,900,000
TronWow is another Tron-based casino dApp featuring the 1-to-99 dice game. There is also a game based on Game of Thrones, where players choose whether Danerys, Jon Snow, Cersei, or Benita will capture the Iron Throne. The winning character is chosen at random, with each offering a different multiplier on players’ bets, ranging from 2x their stake for Jon Snow to 30x for Benita. Blackjack and a wheel game are advertised as coming to the platform soon.
7 Day Volume: 762.1 million TRX / $19,200,000
Like the other top dApps on this list, TronKDD is an online casino based on Tron. It allows users to take a share of profits for providing bandwidth for the dApps operation. Despite the large volume generated by TronKDD, the website wasn’t working when we tried to access it. It’s unclear whether this is because of difficulties with the model of having users provide bandwidth to the platform.
7 Day Volume: 647.6 million TRX / $16,300,000
TRONTOPIA’s primary game is a version of 1-to-99 dice it calls “Ultimate Dice,” where players bet on the range within which the winning number falls. The narrower the range they bet on, the better the odds they receive. As with several of the other platforms on this list, TRONTOPIA distributes dividends to its users.
6. Poker EOS
7 Day Volume: 2.7 million EOS / $15,500,000
As the name suggest Poker EOS is a dApp that offers several versions of poker, including Hundred Bull, Texas PVP, Two Bull, Dragon Tiger War, and Two Texas, with Grab Village Bull coming soon. The majority of these games see players compete against the banker, whereas Texas PVP is a player vs player version of Texas Hold ‘Em. Ranked by number of users, Poker EOS is the second most popular dApp on this list.
7 Day Volume: 2.6 million EOS / $15,300,000
Newdex is the third most popular dApp on this list by number of users and it is the only one which isn’t focused on gambling. Newdex is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that offers trading pairs between EOS and EOS-based tokens. As with other DEXs, Newdex allows tokens to be traded directly from a user’s wallet, without having to send them to the exchange first. DEXs are gaining a lot of attention thanks to the security benefits they offer over centralized exchanges. Binance is one of many crypto exchanges to be moving toward launching their own DEX. Newdex is the first DEX dedicated solely to EOS tokens.
7 Day Volume: 2.6 million EOS / $15,000,000
BigGame has a similar range of games to Poker EOS, including Texas Hold ‘Em and Banker Bull, along with Poker War and Dice. Like several others on this list, BigGame also distributes a share of profits to its users.
7 Day Volume: 2.2 million EOS / $12,600,000
2100.bet’s dice game selects numbers from three blocks on the EOS blockchain and users bet on the total of these three digits. Varying odds are offered for different numbers, ranging from 6.8x returns for betting on 10 or 11 to 183.6x for winning bets on 3 or 18. 2100.bet stands out from the others on this list as it has generated a huge amount over the past week despite having just 10 users reported on the platform in the last 24 hours, according to Dappradar.com. It’s unclear if the number of users is correct, or if perhaps a larger number of users had been on the platform earlier in the week. But if the number is accurate, it means 2100.bet’s users generated over $1 million for the platform each!
7 Day Volume: 52.9 thousand ETH / $12,000,000
FCK is the only Ethereum dApp to have generated over $10 million in the past week. We also featured it earlier this week in our list of the 10 Ethereum-based dApps that are leading the gambling industry on blockchain. FCK uses numbers generated by Ethereum blockchain hashes for chance-based games such a card guessing, coin flipping, dice, and roulette.
Gambling dApps completely dominate this list, but as we discussed in our countdown of the 10 most promising gaming dApps on EOS, that may change as other dApp types develop and gain traction. It may also be surprising to many to see how far behind EOS and TRON Ethereum is in terms of the volume its most popular gambling dApps are seeing. DEXs may also have been expected to feature more prominently and they likely will when this topic is returned to in the future, as Binance and others push to make the dApp concept mainstream.
